In order to explore the current limits of 3D printing technology, I’ve created a program for converting digital audio into a 3D model of a record and printed some functional prototypes that play on ordinary record players. The audio on the records is very low resolution, it has a sampling rate of 11kHz (a quarter of typical mp3 audio) and 5-6bit resolution (less than one thousandth of the resolution of typical 16 bit audio), but the result is easily recognizable. Find my Processing code, 3D model downloads, photos, and a detailed discussion of the design process on Instructables: http://bit.ly/UTsMyj - 3D Printed Record - Audio Tests by Amanda Ghassaei

Andres Ariza is an artist/designer from Barranquilla, Colombia. His main areas of interest include branding, character design, and illustration. We recently found out about Ariza’s work and are shocked he doesn’t have more views. As you might already know, we love showcasing unique works from talented artist’s. Andres continues to develop his skills on a daily basis, and it definitely shows.

Mir Mine is a former open pit diamond mine, now inactive, located in Mirny, Eastern Siberia, Russia. The mine is 525 meters (1,722 ft) deep and has a diameter of 1,200 m (3,900 ft), and is the second largest excavated hole in the world, after Bingham Canyon Mine. The airspace above the mine is closed for helicopters because of incidents in which they were sucked in by the downward air flow. (Wikipedia)

Coinciding with his current exhibition at Fifty24SF, Barcelona-based street artist Aryz recently painted a mural in San Francisco in collaboration with public art organization WallspaceSF. Titled “The Style is the Limit,” Aryz’s solo show explores the idea of artists setting limitations on their own creativity in order to develop an individual style. The show features new paintings as well as studies and a sculpture. These small-scale works inform Aryz’s process in creating his enormous, surreal outdoor works. Take a look at the completed mural and some process shots below and check out some of Aryz’s other recent murals and photos from his studio below.
